Permanently protect America's public lands, national forests, and the Boundary Waters from mining, logging, and fire-sale giveaways. These places belong to all of us, and once a watershed or old-growth forest is sold off or drilled, no future Congress can give it back.
In 2001, after more than 600 public hearings and 1.6 million public comments (the largest response to a federal rule in American history), the Roadless Rule protected some 58 million acres of national forest from roadbuilding and industrial logging. Those acres are the headwaters of drinking water for millions of people, the last unfragmented habitat left in a lot of states, and the elk country and trout streams hunters and anglers have defended for a generation. USDA is now moving to erase all of it administratively, which is exactly how it could be erased again by whoever runs the department next. A protection that survived two decades of litigation shouldn't rest on a memo. Write the Roadless Rule into statute, where an appointee can't repeal it.
Cut the funding behind ICE's lawless detention and enforcement abuses and restore the independent detention ombudsman meant to hold the agency accountable. No agency should run on a blank check with no oversight while people are detained without due process.
