The SUSTAIN Act prohibits the Secretary of the Air Force from reducing the primary mission aircraft inventory of MQ-9 aircraft below current levels during a specified period. It also mandates that the Secretary consult with the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and the Director of the Air National Guard before modifying any MQ-9 aircraft or units assigned to the Air National Guard. Exceptions include cases where an individual aircraft is deemed unsafe or when a unit is reassigned a new primary mission.
