Directs VA physicians or nurse practitioners to certify veteran deaths within 48 hours.
The Veteran Burial Timeliness and Death Certificate Accountability Act mandates that a physician or nurse practitioner employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs must certify the death of a veteran within 48 hours of learning about the death. If a VA physician or nurse practitioner cannot certify the death, a coroner or medical examiner in the jurisdiction where the death occurred may do so. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs must report annually on compliance with this requirement.
