Enact the Ohio Safe Homes Act

Introduced·5/12/26
Introduced Text

Ohio Safe Homes Act allows victims of domestic violence and related crimes to terminate rental agreements and provides tax credits for landlords.

The Ohio Safe Homes Act allows tenants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, abuse, or sexually oriented offenses to terminate their rental agreements without penalty. It also provides landlords with an income tax credit for renting to such tenants. The act prohibits landlords from retaliating against tenants who report such crimes or seek protection, including increasing rent or terminating leases. It also mandates that landlords cannot disclose tenant information to potential abusers and must provide replacement locks at the tenant's expense.
