Ohio HB474 mandates dementia care training for nurse aides in long-term care facilities.

Ohio HB474, the Ohio Dementia Care Training Act for Nurse Aides, requires long-term care facilities to provide nurse aides with a minimum of 75 hours of training, including dementia-specific topics. Nurse aides must complete a competency evaluation program approved by the director of health. Facilities can use nurse aides for up to four months without these qualifications if the aides complete required training within this period. The act also mandates that nurse aides cannot provide care to residents with dementia until they complete the required training.
