Nigel Barnett, a former member of the New York state and local police and fire retirement system, will receive retirement service credit for his employment as a correction officer with Dutchess County from November 18, 2002, to May 3, 2006. This service is not considered police service under the New York state and local police and fire retirement system. Barnett's retirement benefit will be recalculated if a request is made within a year of the act's effective date. All costs associated with this implementation will be borne by the state of New York.
