The Stop The Outrageous Retail Evictions Act, or STORE Act, prohibits landlords from evicting small commercial tenants in New York City without good cause. Good cause includes failure to pay rent, committing a nuisance, illegal activity, or landlord intent to occupy the premises. The landlord must notify the tenant at least one year prior to eviction. The act defines "small commercial premises" as those with no more than 1,000 square feet of retail space. Any agreement waiving tenant rights under this act is void.
