New York S09645 amends the education law to require public schools to offer plant-based food options in food service. Upon request by a student or a person in parental relation to the student, every public school must offer a plant-based food option that is free of animal products and recognized by the USDA as a meat alternate for school lunch programs. The plant-based option must be offered at no additional cost to the student and must be included in all written material describing food offerings.
