The bill amends the public health law to establish minimum staffing standards for emergency medical services in cities with a population over one million. Effective January 1, 2019, the minimum standard for ambulance units is a team of two certified emergency medical technicians or advanced emergency medical technicians. Supervisors' vehicles must have a certified emergency medical technician or advanced emergency medical technician. Voluntary ambulance services must have an emergency medical technician with the patient.
