New York State Senate Bill S07844 allows Bonnie E. Sullivan, the widow of Gerald J. Sullivan, to submit an application for accidental disability retirement with a firefighters' cancer disability presumption on behalf of her late husband. Gerald J. Sullivan, a former Buffalo Fire Department employee and New York state and local police and fire retirement system retiree, passed away from cancer in December 2020. If filed within one year of the act's effective date, the application will be considered timely. Any additional costs associated with this act will be covered by the city of Buffalo.
