Permits eligible retirement system members who are state-paid judges or justices to receive a death benefit in lieu of an ordinary death benefit.

This bill amends the retirement and social security law to allow eligible retirement system members who are state-paid judges or justices of the unified court system or housing judges of the civil court of the city of New York to receive a death benefit in lieu of an ordinary death benefit. The death benefit will be the value of the pension reserve as if the member had retired on their date of death.
