The bill amends the vehicle and traffic law to increase penalties for repair shops that fail to comply with an order to pay restitution for financial loss. If a repair shop fails to comply with an order to pay restitution, the commissioner shall increase the penalty assessed. The penalty for a first violation is up to $750, and for a second or subsequent violation within 30 months, it is up to $1,000. If a finding of financial loss is made, the penalty may be increased by the amount of the financial loss.
