Extends special accidental death benefits for children of deceased members until age 26.
This bill amends the general municipal law to extend the duration of special accidental death benefits (SADB) for children of deceased members until the youngest child reaches age 26. SADB is currently payable to children until age 18 or age 23 if a student, and then to surviving parents for their lifetime. For member deaths on or after the effective date, SADB will be payable to all children under age 26 at the time of the member's death until the youngest child reaches age 26.
