The bill establishes a statewide program to provide free SUNY, CUNY, and community college tuition to active volunteer firefighters, volunteer emergency medical services providers, and volunteer auxiliary police officers. To qualify, students must maintain membership in good standing and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. Students must also apply for tuition assistance program funding, with those funds applied towards tuition costs before any program award. Students are responsible for all other costs, including housing, fees, and non-tuition related charges.
