New York S02509 amends the correction law to facilitate the transfer of incarcerated individuals from a county jail to a state correctional institution when the county jail becomes unsafe due to extraordinary circumstances, such as natural disasters or structural deficiencies. The commissioner of corrections and community supervision can make a state correctional institution available for up to 30 days. If the county jail remains unsafe beyond this period, the state commission of correction can extend the availability for additional 30-day periods.
