This bill increases the special accidental death benefits for certain deceased members of the state and local retirement system. The benefits are paid to a widow or widower or the deceased member's children under the age of eighteen or, if a student, under the age of twenty-three. If neither a spouse nor a dependent child is alive, the benefit may be paid to the member's parents or certain other individuals, if eligible. The increase is effective July 1, 2026. The benefits will be funded by increasing the billing rates charged annually.
