New York A10735 amends the penal law by adding a new section that establishes the offense of obstructing a police officer or peace officer. This offense occurs when a person intentionally interferes with, inhibits, or attempts to interfere with or inhibit a police officer or peace officer from performing their lawful duties. Examples of such interference include spitting, throwing or spilling items, or physically impeding an officer. Obstructing a police officer or peace officer is classified as a class E felony.
