This bill allows municipalities to enact local laws, ordinances, or resolutions authorizing fire companies to establish stipend programs for volunteer firefighters who complete scheduled daytime duty coverage. The stipends are not considered remuneration or gratuity under the volunteer firefighters' benefit law. The office of fire prevention and control can provide state funds through a day shift stipend for volunteer firefighters. The stipends do not affect the volunteer status of firefighters. The bill also amends the definition of "line of duty" in the volunteer firefighters' benefit law.
