New York Assembly Bill A10371 amends the education law to expand the circumstances under which direct support staff can administer medications to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The bill allows trained direct support staff to administer medications under the supervision of a registered professional nurse and with a memorandum of understanding from the individual or their legal representative. It also mandates criminal and agency background checks for direct support staff before they can administer medications. The bill will expire on July 1, 2030.
