Extends special accidental death benefits for deceased members' children until the youngest child reaches age 26.
This bill amends the general municipal law to extend special accidental death benefits (SADB) for deceased members' children until the youngest child reaches age 26. SADB is currently paid to children until age 18 or age 23 if a student. The bill applies to member deaths on or after the effective date, and to member deaths before the effective date if at least one child is under age 26 upon application. SADB is paid to surviving spouses for their lifetime, then to children until the youngest child reaches age 26, and then to surviving parents for their lifetime.
