New York A08518 requires insurance companies to cover outpatient problem gambling services.
New York A08518 amends the insurance law to mandate that policies providing medical, major medical, or similar comprehensive-type coverage must include outpatient coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorder, which now explicitly includes problem gambling services. This coverage must not impose financial requirements or treatment limitations that are more restrictive than those applied to substantially all medical and surgical benefits. The changes apply to any policy issued, delivered, renewed, and/or modified on or after the effective date of the act.
