This bill prohibits the future siting and construction of battery energy storage systems and related facilities on Long Island, in Suffolk and Nassau counties. The prohibition applies to systems of any scale and storage capacity, including those using lithium-ion batteries. Exceptions are made for systems in industrial zones and small-scale residential applications. No permits will be issued for the approval or construction of these systems, except for the exceptions noted. The act takes effect immediately and applies to pending permit applications.
