Establishes a retirement service credit for volunteer fire or emergency service in New York.
The bill allows members of the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) to purchase one year of service credit for every five years of volunteer fire or emergency service provided in the state. A member must pay three percent of their most recent compensation per year of service credited. A member may purchase no more than three years of service credit. The credit is applicable in any special 20 or 25-year retirement plan. The state and participating employers will cover all costs for the service credit, except for the member's payment.
