The bill mandates the Division of Criminal Justice Services to create a veterinary care program for retired law enforcement and fire investigation dogs. This program will cover the cost of veterinary care for the dogs' lifetime if the law enforcement agency, correctional agency, or fire department chooses to participate. To be eligible, the handler or adopter must provide proof that the dog served for at least five years, was injured, or was trained in THC detection.
