Establishes a peer support program for veterans in New York.
The bill amends the mental hygiene law to establish a peer support program for veterans. It defines "veteran peer support services" as any form of peer-to-peer counseling services provided by a veteran peer counselor. The commissioner of addiction services and supports, in conjunction with the commissioner of veterans' services, will establish recommended minimum qualifications for veteran peer counselors. These qualifications may include completion of approved courses of study, equivalent on-the-job experience in mental health counseling, or other credentials.
