Allows employees to use paid sick leave for bereavement, pregnancy loss, or foster child departure.
New York S08892 amends the labor law to allow employees to use paid sick leave for bereavement upon the death of a family member, or upon pregnancy loss by the employee or the employee's spouse or domestic partner. It also allows leave for a foster child leaving a foster family if the child was in the care of the family for six months or longer. If an employee has used their allotted paid sick hours for that calendar year, they can take up to five days of unpaid sick time. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2027.
