The "consumer utility meter choice protection act" allows customers to decline the installation of smart meters without being liable for fees. Customers have the right to decline the replacement of existing meters with two-way smart meters and to refuse the installation of any two-way smart meter devices. Customers can also require the removal of a two-way smart meter within 365 days of installation without incurring fees, penalties, or service charges. The act applies to electric and gas corporations.
