Expands the acceptable uses of affirmations in civil actions.
This bill amends Rule 2106 of the civil practice law and rules to expand the acceptable uses of affirmations in civil actions. Affirmations, which are statements subscribed and affirmed to be true under the penalties of perjury, can now be used in lieu of affidavits, certificates, responses to notices to admit, answers to interrogatories, verifications of pleadings, and bills of particulars. This change applies to affirmations made anywhere, not just in a deposition or before a notary. The amendment takes effect immediately.
