New York S08183 amends the village law and public officers law to allow the village board of trustees in Baxter Estates to permit the office of village clerk-treasurer or deputy clerk to be held by someone who is not a resident of Baxter Estates, provided the person resides in Nassau County or an adjoining county. This change exempts Baxter Estates from the general requirement that such officials must reside within the village they serve. The act takes effect immediately.
