Provides duty disability retirement allowance for NYC teachers who participated in World Trade Center rescue, recovery, or cleanup operations.
This bill amends the retirement and social security law to provide a duty disability retirement allowance for active members of the New York City teachers' retirement system who participated in World Trade Center rescue, recovery, or cleanup operations and incurred a qualifying condition. The allowance is equal to three-quarters of the final average salary. The allowance is payable if the condition is determined to have been incurred in the performance and discharge of duty and is the natural and proximate result of an accident not caused by the member's own willful negligence.
