This bill allocates up to $500,000 in state Coronavirus relief funds for fiscal year 2026 to grant local education agencies for home reading programs. These programs, provided by nonprofit organizations, mail independent reading level books to students weekly and involve parents through phone calls, texts, or notifications. The programs must include at least six and no more than nine books for students to keep, build on literacy principles, and cost no more than $50 per student per semester.
