Adjourns trials in jurisdictions where parties are eligible for free legal counsel if they cannot obtain such counsel through no fault of their own.
This bill amends the real property actions and proceedings law to ensure that in any jurisdiction where a party is eligible for free legal counsel under local law, the court must adjourn the trial if the party has attempted in good faith to secure such counsel but is unable to do so through no fault of their own. The trial must be adjourned for consecutive periods of not less than fourteen days each until the party secures counsel. The court must also notify the party of their eligibility for free legal counsel and provide additional adjournments if necessary.
