Permits surviving spouses of NYC police pension fund members to retain accidental death benefits upon remarriage.
The bill amends the retirement and social security law to allow surviving spouses of New York City Police Pension Fund members to retain accidental death benefits upon remarriage. Currently, surviving spouses who remarry lose the non-Special Accidental Death Benefits (SADB) portion of the accidental death benefit. The SADB portion remains unaffected. The bill applies to surviving spouses in pay status as of the effective date and for members dying on or after that date.
