This bill modernizes the practice of podiatry in New York by expanding the scope of podiatric services to include ankle surgery. It allows podiatrists to perform ankle surgery, including soft tissue and osseous procedures, if they have obtained a privilege to perform standard or advanced ankle surgery. The practice of podiatry is defined to include diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for conditions of the ankle and foot. Wound care is limited to areas below the distal tibial tuberosity. Podiatrists may also administer local anesthetics for therapeutic purposes and under general anesthesia.
