The bill amends the penal law to create a new crime of committing an offense while impersonating a police officer or peace officer. The criminal sanction for this crime depends on the specified offense being committed. If the specified offense is a misdemeanor or a class C, D, or E felony, the offense of committing an offense while impersonating a police officer or peace officer is one category higher than the specified offense. If the specified offense is a class B felony, the maximum term of the indeterminate sentence must be at least six years.
