This bill amends the education law to extend the eligibility period for indigent legal service attorneys to receive certain loan forgiveness. The eligible period is now defined as the seven-year period after the completion of the second year and before the commencement of the tenth year of employment as an eligible attorney. This period includes time spent as a law school graduate employed by a prosecuting or criminal defense agency. The changes take effect immediately without diminishing the current award or status of eligible attorneys already participating in the program.
