Requires insurance policies covering hospital, surgical, or medical care to include coverage for testing of familial dysautonomia, Canavan's disease.
This bill amends the insurance law to mandate that every policy providing coverage for hospital, surgical, or medical care, or reimbursing laboratory tests or diagnostic X-rays, must include coverage for testing of familial dysautonomia, Canavan's disease, and Tay-Sachs. The coverage must be included at the inception of all new policies and, for existing policies, at any anniversary date subject to evidence of insurability. To maintain the confidentiality of persons tested, receipt of an acknowledgment from the testing facility shall be deemed sufficient evidence of testing.
