Designates building inspectors in the city of New York as peace officers.
New York Senate Bill S06276 amends the criminal procedure law to designate certain employees of the New York City Department of Buildings as peace officers. These employees, when acting pursuant to their duties as established in chapter twenty-six of the New York City Charter, will have peace officer status. However, this designation does not authorize them to carry, possess, repair, or dispose of a firearm unless they have the appropriate license issued under section 400.00 of the penal law. The act takes effect immediately.
