Prohibits insurance companies from discriminating based on genetic predisposition and from requiring genetic testing.
The Dennis Crawley Genetic Protection Act of New York prohibits insurance companies from conditioning insurance rates, coverage, or benefits on an individual's agreement to undergo genetic testing. Insurers are also barred from requiring or soliciting genetic information, using genetic testing results, or considering a person's decisions or actions relating to genetic testing. Additionally, insurers cannot refuse to issue or renew a policy, cancel a policy, or alter terms and conditions of coverage based on a genetic predisposition of the insured individual or a family member.
