The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is directed to study the treatment, conditions, and prevalence of aging prison populations. The study will include demographic profiles, projected population growth, factors contributing to the aging population, adequacy of housing and medical care, and training for corrections officers. The department must report findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature within one year. The act takes effect immediately.
