Increases the handling fee for redemption of empty beverage containers.
The bill amends the environmental conservation law to increase the handling fee paid to dealers or operators of a redemption center for the redemption of empty beverage containers. The handling fee is set at three and a half cents per container, increasing to six cents starting April 1, 2025, and adjusted periodically in multiples of $0.005. The fee is to be increased by the percentage increase in the federal or New York state minimum wage, whichever is higher, beginning December 31, 2025, and annually thereafter.
