Requires insurance policies to cover medically necessary hearing aids purchased from hearing aid dispensers.
This bill amends the insurance law to mandate that health insurance policies issued in New York provide coverage for medically necessary hearing aids. These aids must be purchased from hearing aid dispensers registered under the general business law or licensed audiologists under the education law. Coverage may be limited to one hearing aid per each hearing-impaired ear every twenty-four months unless the insured child's hearing has changed significantly within a two-year period and the existing hearing aid no longer corrects the hearing loss.
