The bill creates the New York state public sector employee loan forgiveness program. The president shall grant student loan forgiveness awards to eligible applicants. To qualify, applicants must have graduated from SUNY or CUNY, be employed in a state or local public sector position, have student loan debt from their degree, and be a New York resident. Awards are up to $5,000 per year, for up to ten years, and not exceeding the total remaining balance of the applicant's student loan debt.
