This bill amends the agriculture and markets law to prohibit tethering or confining pigs during pregnancy, calves raised for veal, or egg-laying hens in a manner that prevents them from lying down, standing up, fully extending their limbs, and turning around freely on farms. Violators face a class A misdemeanor charge, punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a fine up to $1,000. The law does not apply during transportation, exhibitions, slaughtering, scientific research, veterinary examinations, or the seven days before a pig gives birth.
