New York S05619 allows first responders diagnosed with PTSD to request line of duty sick leave.
New York S05619 amends the general municipal law to allow first responders diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder to request line of duty sick leave. This leave must be granted upon a written request and begins on the date of diagnosis. The leave is compensated at the first responder's regular rate of pay and does not result in the loss of accrued sick or vacation leave. Employers are prohibited from taking any adverse personnel actions against first responders for utilizing this leave.
