New York S05601 amends the general business law to require that all catalytic converters sold in the state have serial numbers. These numbers must be permanently and visibly engraved or stamped on the converter in boldfaced figures at least one-eighth inches in height. The serial number must be unique to each converter of the same make and model and cannot be removed without being defaced or destroyed. This law applies to converters manufactured or assembled on or after January 1, 2026.
