Removes Social Security Disability Insurance eligibility requirement for Ordinary Disability Retirement for certain New York City firefighters.
This bill removes the requirement that New York City enhanced plan members in active service, who are not eligible for a normal retirement benefit and have completed five years or more of service, must be eligible for, or receive, primary Social Security disability benefits to qualify for Ordinary Disability Retirement. The formula for calculating Enhanced Plan ODR benefits remains unchanged. The change applies to firefighters in active service.
