Establishes active shooter drills in public and private educational institutions.
The bill amends the education law to mandate that public and private schools, excluding colleges and universities, conduct at least twelve drills each school year. Eight of these drills must occur between September 1 and December 31. Four drills must be emergency attack drills, including two lock-down drills and two active shooter drills. Additional drills are required during nighttime hours and summer school sessions. The principal or person in charge can request recommendations from the New York state school safety improvement teams on how to conduct these drills.
