New York S01771 amends the social services law to ensure adequate access to information for individuals with limited English proficiency. The Department of Social Services must develop a plan to translate necessary documents into the twelve most common non-English languages in New York, based on U.S. census data. The department may also offer up to four additional languages. The plan includes offering interpretation services upon request and working with the Office for the Aging to provide additional translation services.
