This bill honors the life and service of United States Army Air Forces Staff Sergeant Eugene J. Darrigan, who was laid to rest in his hometown of Wappingers Falls, New York, on May 24, 2025. Darrigan, a radio operator, served during World War II and was tragically killed in action on March 11, 1944, when his aircraft was struck by enemy fire and crashed off the coast of New Guinea. His remains were unrecoverable for 81 years until the wreckage was located in 2017. In 2023, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency launched an underwater recovery mission to retrieve his remains.
